It has saddened me to come to this point, especially this time of year.

On Christmas Eve, our family experienced a devastating loss. My grandmother lost her home and with it, everything inside. My uncle and my cousin, who live there with his partner and their new baby boy, also lost all of their belongings.

This was more than just a house. It was the home where my father and his brothers grew up, where our entire family gathered and celebrations were had, where my grandfather spent his final moments, and where my brother who has since passed spent his childhood. So many memories, sentimental items, and pieces of our family history are now gone.

Losing a home is heartbreaking at any time, but especially during the Christmas season. Our family is trying to navigate this loss while also figuring out how to rebuild and support one another, including caring for a newborn who now has nothing of his own.
