Hold onto your chips and gravy, Fernvale — the fists are flying and the night is heating up. The man, the myth, the bruising machine Nick ‘Big Hitting’ Bigwood is back and he’s got one mission: punch first, ask questions never.

They say his right hook once knocked the fillings out of a vending machine. His jab? Clocked doing 0–100 faster than a ute on Friday arvo. They say his hooks can reset Wi-Fi routers. His uppercuts? Strong enough to knock satellites out of alignment. Sparring with Bigwood is like shaking hands with a freight train wearing boxing gloves. Bigwood’s not here to dance — unless it’s around his opponents’ unconscious bodies.

This isn’t just a fight — it’s a seismic event. Fernvale locals are already reinforcing their windows.

At Fernvale Fight Night, we believe that boxing is more than just a sport—it’s a tool for empowerment, resilience, and transformation. This year, we’re fighting not just for victory in the ring, but for something bigger: community strength and inclusion.

All proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly toward 'Side by Side'.

Introducing 'Side by Side': A Path to Employment and Mentorship

One of our most exciting initiatives is ‘Side by Side’. This project is designed to provide young people with meaningful work opportunities, offering them the chance to work alongside experienced mentors and gain valuable life skills through hands-on training.

Our vision is to steer these young people away from the justice system by giving them practical employment and the guidance they need to thrive. Through ‘Side by Side’, the youth will engage in community-focused work, such as lawn care, while learning essential skills like responsibility, teamwork, and personal discipline.

To get this initiative off the ground, we need your support.

We are aiming to raise $75,400, which will go directly toward purchasing the necessary equipment to launch ‘Side by Side’. This includes:

A dual-cab utility vehicle ($57,000)

A trailer ($8,000)

A ride-on mower ($8,000)

A push mower ($1,900)

A blower ($500)

This equipment will enable us to employ at-risk youth, offering them not only a chance to contribute to their community but also a chance to gain critical skills that will set them up for success in the future.

At Neighbourhood, we are passionate about creating a safe, inclusive space where people can grow, heal, and connect. Our centre in Ipswich is a hub for people from all walks of life to find a sense of belonging, learn new skills, and support each other.

We offer programs like Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, and Fitness, where we provide scholarships for young people who may not otherwise afford to train. Through mentoring and life skills development, we help guide young people toward resilience, leadership, and positive life choices.
