Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,

It’s with broken hearts that we share the passing of our beloved grandad, Steve Loomes, who sadly left us on the 22nd of July, 2025, just one day before his 71st birthday.

Two and a half years ago, Grandad had melanoma removed from his side. We thought he had beaten it, but in April this year, we received the devastating news that the cancer had returned and spread to his spine, left lung, and hip. Over the past four weeks, he was in and out of hospital, fighting bravely until the very end.

Despite all he went through, Grandad never lost his spark. He was always smiling, cracking jokes, and lighting up every room. He loved life, good company, a G&T or a pint, and a game of poker. In his younger years, he played football and ran pubs and restaurants, always the life and soul of the party, and loved by everyone who met him.

What makes this even harder is that he was so excited to walk my mum down the aisle for her wedding on the 2nd of August. He talked about it constantly and couldn’t wait to be there celebrating with us. It breaks our hearts that he won’t be with us in person, but we know he’ll be there in spirit, and in our hearts, every step of the day.

We want to honour Grandad’s life with the send-off he truly deserves, one filled with love, dignity, and the same warmth he gave to all of us. Sadly, funeral costs have put a financial strain on our family at an already difficult time.
