Hi, my name is Patricia Trainor. In May I had surgery at the Annotto Bay Hospital in Jamaica to repair a fractured humerus bone. I had a bad fall while out walking my dogs.

I am so grateful for the care I received from the doctors, nurses and staff. One of the staff, pictured with me above, asked if I could donate some fans and an electric kettle for the ward. Her name is Shauna Thomas. She was very kind to me and made me my coffee every morning during my stay. I was moved by her compassion to help the women in the surgical ward and donated 3 fans, a kettle, sheets, toilet paper, and towels.

The ward has space for 2 more beds, these beds would allow more women to have surgeries sooner. I was turned away and had to wait another week because there were no beds available. There is a need for curtains for the new windows, more fans, plumbing in bathrooms and showers needs repair, walls need painting, need for pillows, sheets, towels, wash cloths, soap, toilet paper.

I was sad to see some of the older women without a sheet to cover themselves or a pillow to rest their head on. One young woman had no towel or pyjamas. It was very hot and the fans didn’t work. After sweating through the first night, my friend brought me a fan from home. I was lucky. Others are not.

Please give generously to fix up the female surgical ward at Annotto Bay Hospital so that the women patients will be more comfortable during their stay. Thank you
