Feet First: Bringing Shoes to Houston
Hello, my name is Carl Sutherland. I live in Houston, Texas. I'm 34 years old. I work full-time for a company called Refined Technologies, Inc., located in the Aldine district and also in the Woodlands. We do work globally, but my workplace is located in Aldine.
Anyways, in February 2025, I started going with my brother Benjamin to feed the homeless at a place called Loaves and Fishes Kitchen downtown near 69 and Congress. We soon started seeing some guys who had no shoes on their feet showing up to get food. I asked them for their sizes and was able to bless them with shoes and socks to help them out. There is a tremendous issue with homelessness in Houston and a ton of opportunity to give back to the community by helping these less fortunate people. They are in need, and we see the need every day but choose to ignore it.
It became clear to me after a few months that God wanted me to start keeping an eye out for people who didn't have shoes. Benjamin and I started to attend street church in Montrose on Thursday last month, and the second time we went, a guy walked straight up to me with no idea about me helping other people with shoes, and he asked me if I could help him get some shoes. Light bulb moment.
Since then, I have been able to raise $100 from friends at work and have been to Walmart three times to purchase shoes, clothes, and other goods for people on the street. My trunk is full of shoes and clothes that I have purchased with donations or had donated by someone I know. I'm asking for God to move in this and to raise as much money as I possibly can to help people on the street. I just want to start with putting shoes on the feet of those who don't have any, maybe getting them some bedding or a comforter to help them sleep, or buying new clothes. But I see this growing into something bigger and really being able to make an impact on people who are looked down upon, disrespected, misunderstood, or just completely ignored. I want to put new shoes on a hundred thousand different feet of people who do not have shoes by the end of 2025!! Any and all donations are welcome. Whatever God puts on your heart to give, I pray you will listen. People out here need it. Thanks and God bless!
