Feed Parkdale Challenge
What
For one week Parkdale Community Food Bank board of directors and community members will be clients of the food bank. We will shop at the food bank as our current members do with a small supplement of a cash budget that simulates our typical member's finances. We will share how the food bank works, our own experiences and will fundraise to reach a goal of $10,000!
Why
We are taking on this challenge not only to raise money for our food bank (though that's a big goal!) We all would like to educate ourselves and Parkdale on how our community members live and what challenges they face, in order to improve our services. We will monitor the participants during this campaign and measure physical energy, emotional feelings, cash for social eating/drink, and general well being.
We are also taking on the challenge to raise awareness: to share how food banks work, what it's really like to live on a food bank diet and (most importantly) how important it is to support local food banks. We will be sharing our experiences on social media and inviting others to join in on our challenge.
How
For the duration of one week we will eat only what a typical food bank member receives from Parkdale Community Food Bank. We will also use additional services in the neighbourhood such as meal programs, “pay what you can” grocery locations, and typical shopping. The weekly budget for additional food outside of the food bank is about $35.00 a week. Extra food has been provided for this challenge, so as not to take away from our clients' needs.
We want to focus on providing healthy options including fresh produce to our clients and need your support! Your donation will go directly to providing healthy food for Parkdale Community Food Bank clients.
