Feeding Tulear Children during COVID19: MADAGASCAR
Beschermde donatie
The Covid-19 epidemic has devastated some of the most vulnerable population in economic deprived areas. Millions of households are facing sharp declines in income, forcing them to make difficult decisions between either purchasing food or continuing to cover non-food expenditures. In Toliara the number of vulnerable children abandoned on the streets to fend for themselves is significantly increasing, these children are reduced to begging and risky behaviour to survive.
Our small group of Anglophone expats who live and work in the Toliara area have come together to try to make a small difference in these children's lives. We are trying to build a safe space where children can get access to a nutritious meal, basic health care, and warm clothing to survive life on the streets. Current capacity ranges from 75 to 140 children per day, with a long list of children trying to enter the feeding program.
Each nutritious meal costs only $26 cent and $27USD can feed 100 children a day, $30USD covers basic health care for 100 children per month, and $130 can provide each child with winter clothing to keep them warm at night when temperatures can drop to 13 degrees.
