Feeding Those Treating Us

Donation protected
My little sister, Dr. Sophie Morrad, is an emergency room resident physician in NYC.  You know what that means: she, and her colleagues, are on the front lines of this fight against COVID-19, at risk of contracting the virus themselves.

Inspired by their heroism, I decided to raise money to treat her Emergency Room department staff, and the ER staff at 4 local DC hospitals (for starters), to a meal from local restaurants.  This way, the ER staff knows how much we appreciate their hard work and sacrifices during these difficult times by enjoying a good meal, and the local restaurants get a little economic boost during these unprecedented times.

Here are the number of meals we will be delivering with your donations:

NY Metropolitan Health (my sister's hospital) -- 65 lunches and 45 dinners

Howard University Hospital -- 35 lunches and 30 dinners

George Washington University Hospital (main campus) -- 50 lunches and 30 dinners

MedStar Washington Hospital (110 Irving St) -- 30 dinners (they have regular lunchtime deliveries already it seems!)

Georgetown University Hospital -- 18 lunches and 18 dinners

If you can donate, it would be much appreciated! One meal costs about $5-10, so no donation is too small.

DC local chef Erik Bruner-Yang (Maketto, ABC Pony, and Brothers and Sisters) will be teaming up with me to create meals for our DC hospitals.  Thanks, Erik, for your help and your dedication to various front line workers.

Schedule so far:
-NY Metropolitan Health ER receiving meals on Monday, April 13.
-Medstar Washington Hospital Center ER (110 Irving) receiving meals for night shift on Wednesday, April 15.
-GW University Hospital ER receiving meals on Wednesday, April 15.
-Howard University Hospital ER receiving meals on Thursday, April 16.
-Waiting to hear back from Georgetown re dates.

I would like to have this an ongoing thing through the pandemic, and even include other departments like the ICU of hospitals into the mix, if possible.

I  will also provide receipts (for accountability), and photographs (and hopefully videos) of the staff's receipt of meals so that you can see the smiles of appreciation.

Also, that's my sister's picture below, with her personal protective gear (it's blurry b/c her phone is in a plastic bag for safety).  And some of her ER team in the fundraiser's cover photo.  Let's pray for them, thank them, and see those smiles!
