My name is Hawi Awash and I am the Co-Founder of YEMA, a clothing brand located in Tiburon, California. During the COVID-19 pandemic YEMA has been working to ensure that vulnerable families in Kibera, Kenya and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia have food on the table. Please see the pictures below on our recent food donations.
In the coming weeks we are planning to offer daily meals to children on streets in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Due to the rise of COVID-19 cases in the country, many restaurants have stopped selling the low rate leftover meals to the homeless population. Many families rely on these meals for daily survival. As part of the global community we will like to do our part in assisting others with getting their basic needs met during these volatile times.
For $150 we will be able to feed 600 street kids.
Teff (makes Ethiopian flat bread) —> 100kg of Teff will make 500 injeras.
Shiro/misir (the stew that the bread will be eaten with): 100kg of Shiro/misir will make 600 servings.
YEMA, LLC along with WubAlem an NGO on the ground plans to hire cooks and distribute lunch daily to street kids in Addis Ababa for the next 30+ days during the COVID-19 pandemic.
After the food is made our volunteers on the ground will drive around handing out lunch to street kids everyday.
In addition, we plan to distribute a total of 400kg of Teff and 400kg of shiro to 40+ families that are living under the poverty line.
If you are looking for ways to be of service to others during these uncertain times any amount of donations towards this program will be incredibly beneficial. Please share with your network & assist us in maintaining this program. If you have any further questions on details feel free to contact me.
Thank you family! Let’s get through this tough time together.
