Supporting our Hospo Community

HELP US HELP THE HOSPO COMMUNITY - Putting meals on the table for some of our hardest hit.

This campaign has been set up by a group of businesses in the Manly area in a bid to help some of our most vulnerable staff, and also as a way of recognising that although ‘business as usual’ cannot continue, this wonderful community can rally round and help keep our vibrant local culture alive and kicking whilst we bunker down through the spread of the Coronavirus.

The COVID-19 virus pandemic has hit the hospitality industry rapidly and extensively. Creating virtually immediate job losses, growing by the day. These individuals are now simply worried how to make ends meet, from paying rent to simply putting a meal on the table.

The idea is simple - your donations fund meals for hospitality workers who have lost shifts and therefore income. You could think of buying dinner for a dishwasher forced to stay home as a small pickup in a time of adversity - but it’s more than that. It’s a direct stimulus to keep the local hospitality economy alive, it reduces the burden on some of our most vulnerable workers, and represents a real local effort to help your local community.

Social distancing, and for some social isolation, are going to be important tools for the broader community to protect the vulnerable, and this is no different in our industry. Hence our efforts to build support from local businesses for people who we absolutely depend on day to day, but are sometimes overlooked.

We expect this effort to last many weeks, and are planning for a 6 month total lifespan of this project, and continue to reach out to various stakeholders within the community.

Our efforts have been supported by leading members of our local community  including;

James Griffin MP "The Manly community is proud of its vibrant cafe, restaurant and hospitality industry. When times are tough, we will dig deep and support one another. This is a practical and meaningful contribution for those who want to make one."

Luke Atkins, President - Manly Business Chamber - “In challenging times and despite everything that’s happening, it’s inspiring to see the Manly community come together with initiatives that support each other. With a large number of affected workers locally facing huge uncertainty where there next meal will come from, this is a really impactful project”.

Other local businesses supporting this effort include;

                  * Independent Bars Association of NSW
                  * Donnys Bar
                  * Insitu Restaurant
                  * Hugos Manly
                  * 4 Pines
                  * Belgrave Cartel
                  * The Cumberland
                  * House of Pocket
                  * The Hold

and our technology partner, Hut34.

This represents a great cross section of Manly enterprise all putting their shoulders to the wheel with their own skill sets and expertise to find ways to make things just a little better.

What do we want you to do?
Please donate as much as you are comfortable with - roughly $5 will provide a delivered meal for a single worker

How does it work?
We are registering and verifying hospitality workers who have lost work. Once verified, each worker will be able to request a meal through our systems, and it is delivered to their door*, in the same manner as the various home delivery apps out there.

How can I register?
If you are a hospitality worker, and are interested in registering to receive fresh meals delivered to your door, please fill in this form. If you are a local business operator and want to get involved in the campaign, we’d also love to hear from you - please contact [email redacted].au

*Where do you operate?

"The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step." - Lao Tzu

We’re Manly locals, so as our first step, we’re setting up and starting deliveries here only. We also have friends throughout the country, and are partnering with other operators to roll this out both smoothly, and as rapidly and widely as possible. We plan to deliver to Sydney CBD in our second stage, and thereafter we will grow as fast as we can to raise support and deliver outcomes wherever demand exists.

What this isn’t
This is not a charity. We are a group of businesses and people looking to help hospo workers in the Manly area, and hopefully the greater Sydney. We are committed to sharing our stories as we roll this system out, and will allocate the funds to cover the costs of food ingredients, preparation, and delivery. There is a significant element of trust here, and we will live up to it.
