Feeding An Area

Story Time! I've decided to start this Gofundme to feed the fucking kids. I've spent some time recently talking with teachers in the area and the stories they told me regarding some of their students had a profound effect on me. What was the most striking to me was the pattern around students and the lack of food they had access to on a daily basis. I'm familiar with hunger pains, and you, as the reader can probably relate at one time or another.

Some schools in the area have outdoor food pantries that students can visit before or after school to grab a snack. When I was visiting a school I noticed that the pantry was nearly empty and only had canned vegetables left in it and I asked how it was filled. It's filled based on donations and sometimes the teachers bring in food, other times, people drop food off to donate. I then understood why there was only canned vegetables left. No one in the world likes canned vegetables especially ELEMENTARY students (besides peas, canned peas are great).

So why don't I fill it up and donate some food and call it a day? Well I did, and then I spoke with a teacher a week later and it was empty again, luckily the $200 I spent at Walmart the week prior allowed her to fill it again. Guess what happened over the weekend? Empty. How do I know? I visited the school again after hours to see how my rations were holding up against these hungry students and there was a kid there on his bike, probably no more than 12 stuffing food from this outdoor pantry into his backpack. I asked the obvious question "Hey bud, are you hungry or what?" and He responded "Yeah I am" and so on top of the food he stuffed in his bag, I gave him $30 so he could go grab something warm.

Moral of the story? Feed the fucking kids, and I know there's community services that offer food for families but some families are too proud, which means kids can sometimes go hungry. Sometimes when families get there, it's picked over and it's only the canned vegetables left.

Where's your dollars going to go? Well, i'm going to feed the fucking kids and you're going to help me (hopefully) I'm going to go food shopping and get some nutritious and delicious food so the kids can have full bellies and fueled brains to learn. Less fruit snacks and chips, more fruit cups (maybe some canned vegetables too but the good ones). My goal is $1,000 it's not much, but it's more than I can provide on my own, and it'll help kids get a good snack for school or to take some home for dinner (Yes they took the dinner meals we put in there too). & possibly provide a little less stress going into the holiday season.

I get this isn't the case for all kids, and some kids are being fed. But think of a number, how many students do you think didn't eat breakfast before school, and don't know what they're having for dinner? Now multiply that number by at least 3 (Unless you're a bad guesser).

Questions you might have:
What if a kid takes more food than they need? - Well the kids are generally pretty gracious about sharing, they're elementary kids and don't usually think past "I want to eat this right now" (Idk I don't have kids so idk what kids think, I know they're usually pretty good) - either way, a hungry human is eating.

What if it's not a kid taking food? - Oh, you mean what if another hungry human goes up to the box and takes food? Well looks like they won't be hungry anymore either.

What schools am I going to go to? - Idk, the schools with this box at their school.

What happens if I get more than $1,000? - I'm going to contact schools that don't have the outdoor food pantry and ask if I can make them one and put it out front of their school so they can feed the fucking kids too!

A bit of satire here but it's seriously sad how close to home this is, elementary school aged kids that look forward to school because that's where there's food. Students hungry to learn, hungry for life, and have to sit in a desk while their tummies grumble for their next meal. That's why the title of this is Feeding An Area, it's a play on Feeding America - I can't feed America, but we can feed an area - even if it's small.
