We were going to support those who stand in line to vote in the 7th Congressional district in Georgia (Gwinnett County) by serving them delicious freshly cooked food and drinks (no alcohol) all day.
Unfortunately voter suppression in Gwinnett County is alive and well. The board of elections forbade us from serving their voters. They are dead wrong on the law, but there is insufficient time to mount a challenge. SO,
On Wednesday 10/14, we met all of the requirements to feed voters in precinct CC13, 8th District, Fayetteville, NC. A small team of really talented, informed folks made this happen for us. We owe all of them a huge THANK YOU!
The only remaining question is what day, or days. Turns out early voting in NC is out of sight. We now believe that Saturday 10/31 may be the best day for G2E-1 It is also possible that 10/24 will be just as busy. We'll have a definitive decision on Saturday 10/17. This offers us an opportunity to do two days for just the raw food cost for two days - I can do both days with our existing setup.
We have sat a new fund rising goal. We reduced it from $16250 for three separate kitchens to $5000 for one kitchen, two days (we're half way there). Because the 24th is so close, the last day we can commit to two days is Tuesday, 10/20. If you'd like to join us in making two days in CC13, please pitch in by Tuesday.
We are going to make the long wait to vote actually exciting, like a block party for voters. We would love your help. We're going to be in CC13 one day no matter, help us make it two. With your support, we'll feed about 2400 folks who care enough to tough it out, vote no matter what. But this time, waiting to cast their vote will be down right fun.
We would so appreciate any help we can get because voting is at the heart of a participative democratic society. I believe voting is at the heart of being a great citizen, a true patriot.
If you live in North Carolina or you want to come help us, please let us know! We need volunteers.
