They are called the Arhuacos, one of the ancestral indigenous communities located in Sierra Nevada de Sanata Marta, Colombia.
This specific reserve is located in Jimain Cesar, in very modest conditions. They have suffered hundreds of years of scarcity, famine and government neglect; they have been victims of the Colombian armed conflict, criminal organizations and drug trafficking. The Arhuacos are a peaceful but fragile people under these circumstances.
With much effort, the Arhuacos have managed to implement small agricultural and fish farming projects, but they do not completely cover the food demand of the entire community. There are more than 1,000 adults and children who need access to food immediately and due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is difficult to access supplies and also, to get support from local authorities.
