Hi there! My name is Mariah, and I’m fundraising for Minnehaha Food Shelf in my hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota. I believe people gotta eat, and right now the situation in Minneapolis is making that harder and harder for an increasing number of people.
I’ve lived in Amsterdam, the Netherlands for the past eight years, but watching what’s happening in my homeland hits close to my heart. Trump’s paramilitary ICE is targeting and tearing apart BIPOC families across the United States. Minneapolis sits at the epicenter of this violence, forcing families into hiding and cutting them off from access to basic necessities. I’m reaching out to my community in the Netherlands to help support the community in Minneapolis.
To incentivize donations, I’ve created “ICE OUT” iron-on patches and stickers, and I’ve also written up some FAQs (nobody’s asked yet—I’m just writing this at 11 p.m. on a Thursday).
What happens with the money?
The fundraising goal is €1,236. The cost of producing 300 stickers and 30 patches locally was €235.95 including taxes. After those costs are covered, the remaining €1,000.05, minus GoFundMe’s approximate 2.9% fee, will be donated directly to Minnehaha Food Shelf. This is an auto-adjusting fundraising goal, so the amount displayed on the page may vary slightly.
What's Minnehaha Food Shelf?
Minnehaha Food Shelf is a nonprofit providing food and basic household items to people in need in South Minneapolis. In 2025, they supported nearly 30,000 children. With the increased ICE presence in Minnesota, they now face the added challenge of delivering essential supplies directly to families instead of operating solely as a pickup location.
Minnehaha Food Shelf did not ask me to do this. I chose them because I donated earlier this month and received a personal response that really stayed with me. I can’t afford to donate more on my own. My boyfriend loaned me the money to produce the patches and stickers so I could try to raise funds in other ways. He’s a keeper.
Can't I just donate directly to the food shelf?
You can absolutely donate directly to the food shelf, and their website is linked here . It would be extremely cool (but not icy). The idea behind this GoFundMe, however, is to donate one lump sum. For U.S. nonprofits, every donation must be individually tracked and reported, and donations over $250 require written acknowledgements. Transaction fees—especially from abroad—also add up. Pooling funds together saves time and money and allows more resources to go directly toward supporting families in need.
Okay, cool, how do I get a patch or a sticker?
If you’d like a patch or sticker, make a donation to the GoFundMe and reach out to me. If you’re in Amsterdam, we can organize a drop-off or pickup. If you’re elsewhere in the Netherlands, let’s see what we can work out, and if you’re somewhere else in the EU, we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. Supplies are limited. Producing each iron-on patch cost €4.84, and each sticker cost €0.31 including VAT, so please try to donate accordingly (or more!) and let me know what and how many you’d like.
What can I do with my sticker or patch?
If you get a sticker or patch, I’d love for you to post a photo of it once it’s applied, ideally with a geolocation. People in Minneapolis and the surrounding areas are feeling isolated and not okay, and solidarity from other places can be a real lighthouse. You can use the hashtag #ICEOUT—though full disclosure, I’m getting old and unsure if hashtags are still a thing.
Finally, if you made it this far, thank you. Let's feed some families together.
