Help elders and families affected by the riots

The issue

Most families in neighborhoods near us have NOTHING. No stores, no pharmacies, nothing! so some families are really in need. There’s elderlies out here running low on food and meds, moms needing food and supply for babies, families without cars and more.

Our goal

Me, my husband, and our friends are coming to you guys asking for your help by giving what you can to the people who were affected by the stores damaged during the riots. We started going to random businesses that were cleaning as we drove by to give a helping hand and noticed the lack of supplies. This motivated us to donate things, focusing on small Pharmacies and Markets, such as shovels, cut resistant gloves, goggles, push brooms, and more things we feel will aide in a faster clean up if we can. Last week, we gave away Walmart gift cards and uber gift Cards but since public transportations has been finally restored, our main focus is to help the whole neighborhood clean up and contribute to them so we can get our communities back running and stop the need to travel further to grocery shop and get prescriptions. Imagine the ppl who rely on others and public transportation to travel.

What brought us here to ask you for help ?

Driving past our area seeing the damage and knowing people don’t have the advantages we have MAKES us want to help. It’s truly breaks our hearts so we had to take action. We started on our own yesterday in our neighborhood doing 4 blocks. We pitched in $2k in total and did 1 block a person. We were able to finish 44 homes. We weren’t effected by the pandemic so we thought we’d spend some of ours savings on ppl who need help most. Their reactions and appreciation gave us the desire to reach out for assistance in helping more neighbors and give the encouragement others to do the same in their neighborhoods.

What area am I donating to?

The donations will go to the neighbors and businesses of the East Chicago area near Advocate Trinity hospital to be exact. Depending on how fast the goal is met, we will be more than happy to travel to other neighborhoods to help out.

We’re trying to give away at least $50-$100 gift cards per household. If you have any resources or suggestions please feel free to email asharris22280gmail . This is my husband Alec Harris’ email.
