NYC Feed and Rebuild Alliance

Donation protected
The NYC Feed and Rebuild Alliance was started by Zucker's Bagels and is a new organization of restaurants in New York City.  We have the capability to create thousands of ready-to-eat meals to help feed New Yorkers in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Funds raised will be to accomplish the following:

- Feed people in need, including NYC's homeless population, NYC's needy and hungry population, schoolchildren in need of meals, and first responders working tirelessly against the spread of this virus.

-Fuel local businesses who can prepare up to 10,000 meals per day, and make sure they are able to keep the lights on

All proceeds will go towards creating and delivering individually wrapped,  ready-to-eat meals to the groups listed above.

We aim to create a sustainable, full circle system that enables food businesses to prepare and deliver meals throughout New York City.  Rates for meals will be at fair, wholesale prices with the goal of allowing businesses to hiring back employees to support the food preparation operation.

Each individually-wrapped meal serves one person and will include a healthful  sandwich, a side and a drink.  Our ready-to-eat meals cost between $4-10 per meal.  An approximate example of how payment for 1,000 meals are paid for is as follows:
-$2450 food cost
-$660 labor cost
-$390 expenses/overhead

This alliance was created by Matt Pomerantz, Dan Pace and Chef Rich DiBiari of Zucker's Bagels & Smoked Fish, who have been funding their meals donation program for The Bowery Mission. This is very personal to Zucker's Bagels as a New York City food institution who wants to be able to feed people in need and make sure their employees, and thousands of other employees, have a place to work.

We want to expand this program and are open to hearing from any food businesses that can prepare and deliver at least 1,000 individually-wrapped ready-to-eat meals per day in the New York City area.

We can all get through this challenging time together if our community sticks together, stays strong and supports each other.  New York City is the most dense city in the country, with a population of many hungry people,  which also has the largest food system that’s sitting idle -- with hundreds of thousands of workers sitting at home.
