February 11, 2023 - Scarlette Sophia Owens

On February 11, 2023, at 3:30am I picked my daughter up to go and deliver my new granddaughter. We were so excited. We got to the hospital just in time and Scarlette was born at 4:16am. I got to cut her cord and see her beautiful blue eyes. She looked right at me and I loved her instantly. Then words that you never want to her from the nurse. “Come on little one breath” as she rubbed her back my daughter and were frozen waiting for her to let out a cry. This cry did not happen. The wonderful staff at Peterborough Regional Hospital worked on poor little Scarlette to try to get her to take a breath until 5:06am. This is when they asked my daughter the unthinkable, is it ok if we let her go, we have done everything we can to try and save your beautiful little girl. As she gave them permission to let her go. I could not believe this moment that was supposed to be so happy and beautiful had turned into something so sad and heartbreaking. Our precious little girl was not going to come home with us. Since this time we have been working as family to try and heal, none of us are sure how to do that.
I feel that at this time of healing my daughter should not have to worry about her finances as she can not heal with this stress.
Any help would be appreciated greatly. As we work together to make sense of this heartbreak.
