Help Samaa Take Her First Steps Again

Dear friends, family, and compassionate souls,

Today, I am writing to you with a heart full of pain—but also with hope. My sister, Samaa, is fighting the hardest battle of her life.

Last year, Samaa suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. Her heart stopped for 15 long minutes. Although doctors were able to restart her heart, the lack of oxygen caused severe brain injury. From that moment, everything changed. Samaa lost her ability to speak, eat, and drink. She still relies on a feeding tube and does not yet have control over her hands. But despite all of this, she continues to fight—every single day.

Today, Samaa is working toward her biggest goal yet: standing on her feet and walking again.

Her neurologist, Dr. Mostafa Abdel Hakim, has recommended transferring her to Hamilton for advanced rehabilitation, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy. This treatment can play a crucial role in brain recovery, but it requires 30 to 40 sessions, and the cost is overwhelming.

On February 18, which also marks the first day of Ramadan, the hospital will discharge Samaa. From that day forward, all medical care, rehabilitation, transportation, and daily treatment costs will become our full responsibility. Our parents are elderly and unable to work.

I am the only provider for our family, and I had to leave my job entirely to care for Samaa and support my mother. We are doing everything we possibly can—but this next stage is simply more than we can manage alone.

As we enter the holy month of Ramadan, a time of mercy, compassion, and giving, we humbly ask for your support. And for those who do not observe Ramadan, we ask you from one human heart to another—please help us give Samaa a real chance at recovery, dignity, and independence.
