Hi my name is Jaci Sire, I am 16 years old and I am currently homeless along with the rest of my family. Let me explain my situation a little bit. Four years ago my parents were finally able to purchase a beautiful home for us despite the covid tragedies and everything else going on in the world at the time. In July of 2020 we finally moved into this beautiful home in the heart of Chalmette and I was so excited to start the new school year at Trist middle school. I was even more excited to not have to share a room with my older sister and be able to have my own bedroom. We were finally able to have pets so of course I was super excited to finally get a puppy and my sister was finally able to get a cat. It wasn't soon after till our brand new home came crashing down. On October 28th, 2020, yes not even 5 months after we moved in, an oak tree came crashing through not only my bedroom but the whole house. I remember the moment my life changed so vividly, I was sitting on the couch in the living room watching a movie with my sister and my mom as we prepared for hurricane Zeta to hit when all of a sudden we heard a loud snap then the loudest crash I have ever heard in my life. Panic soon set in when we realized our oak tree was no longer standing strong, it was through the ceiling of my bedroom. It was a very scary moment, I didn’t know how to feel or what to think at that moment. I could not imagine how my parents felt, the home they had worked so hard for was broken. Our brand new home was destroyed in a matter of seconds, it was a nightmare. I did not think that nightmare would last four years. In the past four years, we have dealt with lawsuits, insufficient funds, stupid insurance companies, multiple family deaths, and all while living out of boxes and bags in someone else's home. When first assessing the damage from the tree, our contractor brought to our attention that our home was riddled by termite damage and the insurance company refused to cover any damages that were caused by termites. For over a year my parents fought with the insurance company to even begin fixing our home and then Hurricane Ida came and ruined the shell of a house we had left with water damages and mold. The following year, there was more fighting with the insurance company and there seemed to be no light at the end of the tunnel for my family and I. After years of fighting with the insurance company and filing a lawsuit, the insurance company filed bankruptcy leaving my family without any hope of finally going to the place we call home. My dad is working overnight to make more money while my mom is working two jobs to save money to get our home liveable. I miss my family. I miss my home. I just want to go home and make friends and be a normal teenager. My parents are about $50,000 short to be able to fix our home. I know this is a lot of money especially with how expensive everything is right now but if everyone could share and donate even a dollar, anything could help us get back home. Thank you for your time and we appreciate anything and everything even if it just a share, a like, or a prayer. All money raised will be set up in a savings account for my parents that my nana will manage and will be used to rebuild our house. Today it’s a shell but with your help it can be a home again.
