Update March 17, 2020: we reached our $12,000 goal this week! We setup multiple giving options including this one. Altogether we made it. Wow! We are *so* incredibly grateful for everyone's generosity.

Much gratitude, love and peace ~ Monik & Dwight

Here's one of the parts that is most uncomfortable to talk about because it has to do with money, but we think it's important. There are different opinions on whether or not families should raise funds to pay for their adoption-related expenses. We wanted to address the biggest question that people often want to ask but don't feel comfortable to.

If we have to fundraise to adopt, can we really afford to adopt?

We're asking you to make a shift in your thinking. Most of us have healthcare, but if you didn't have healthcare in the US the cost of having a baby can be up to $30,000... similar to the cost of adoption. Now, imagine every time families wanted to have a baby, they had to pay up front. Where would families come up with that money? There would be a birth decline!

For most of us fundraising is very uncomfortable. We both spent a lot of time thinking about this. We have had to move beyond our pride and fear of rejection.

Here's why we've decided to ask for support:

1) We're an average middle-class family who is growing our family through adoption. Adoption isn't limited to just those who are very wealthy. While we have had the privilege to not ask for support thus far, this is still a huge undertaking.

2) You (our friends and family) love us and you know that we will be good parents.

3) It doesn't need to be just us who are responding to this invitation to adopt, you too are invited to participate in an adoption journey. You are invited to be part of David's story.

We can absolutely afford adoption, we just need a little bit of help, a little bit of encouragement and a push from our friends and family to get over this hurdle.

For many of you we know that your way of journeying with us is to pray. Pray with us and for those of you desiring to give us financial encouragement, you can do so here.

How soon do we need these funds?

If we travel in March we will need to pay all of our fees by March. If we travel in April we will need them by April.

What is the money going towards?

An itemized the breakdown of costs is listed here https://www.holtinternational.org/adoption/fees.php . Our outstanding fees at this point is a total of $23,600. We hope to raise a minimum of $12,000 and all money raised will go towards our adoption related expenses. If we exceed the full $23,600, additional money will be used for 1) a gift for the orphanage that has cared for David; and 2) expenses related to David's adjustment into our home (medical check up, professional services such as speech therapy, language lessons, etc).

Even if you can't give at this time, we would greatly appreciate your prayers for us as we move forward: for our child, his birth parents, his caregivers, and the adoption agency (Holt International).

Thank you!!
