Help a Single Mother Secure a Stable Home for Her Kids
Donation protected
Seven years ago, I took my six children with me to California, where I am from, leaving behind an abusive marriage to begin a new life of healing and peace. As a single mother, my biggest dream has been home ownership - to give my children stability, community, and a permanent place to call home. Strapped with a large debt from my divorce and six children suffering from PTSD, I worked tirelessly to reach my goal, working a full-time job plus a part-time job, and then adding a full-time doctoral program to my plate. My hard work is paying off as my children are thriving, I have paid off a significant amount of debt, and I graduated with my doctorate degree in educational leadership this past May.
Yet, with raising my six children alone on an educator’s salary, it has been challenging to save money for a house, especially in this inflated market. For years we have lived paycheck to paycheck in a small apartment to save money, with me sleeping in the living room to give the bedrooms to my children. This year I have found a new housing development with a few designated 4-bedroom Below Market Rate (BMR) townhouses available within my children's current school districts. Even though I income-qualify, I am still short thousands of dollars to make the down payment. In order to go under contract I need to show that my bank account has the money required for closing costs. I am racing to beat other potential buyers from qualifying before me, buying up the inventory before I have a chance. There are two out of the original five townhouses left for purchase!
I am unable to afford a house at market rate and am praying that I can qualify for this opportunity. I am setting aside my pride and am asking for help. Please share this post, consider donating to our cause, and supporting our dream of having a home that my children will be proud of - where they can ride bikes, walk our dog, and be carefree kids – starting fresh, leaving their days of trauma and poverty behind. Thank you so much!
