FAWNS Community Allotment

June 2025 - Update - thank you to all the donors and other organisations and volunteers who have pulled together to transform the FAWNS Community Allotment from a derelict site to a beautiful oasis of peace and beauty at the heart of Aspull.

June 2024 - Hi, we are FAWNS (Forum for Aspull, Whelley and New Springs) and we have been given an allotment for the benefit of the community in our corner of sunny Wigan! It has huge potential and lots of groups want to use it for education, to grow food for local people, as a healthy space for wellbeing and to host community events like poetry readings and a strawberry fair, barbecues and garden parties. It will be an oasis too for local wildlife, especially hedgehogs and bees. The site needs lots of work before the community can benefit from all the activities we have planned. It needs to be cleared and the dangerous structures removed, we need to restore the raised beds, pond and improve access to better meet the needs of our diverse community. We need tools, plants, compost and would like to build a new shelter, just something simple where we could educate groups and lead demonstrations on the rare occasions it rains in Wigan! It would be great if you could help us turn our dream into a reality as it will have a real positive impact on the health and wellbeing of local people.
