Hello, quite simple I need help. My goal is just simply to keep providing a stable environment for my son, since I have hit this point of extreme financial burden.
Going on seven years ago my wife and I became separated less than a year after the birth of our son, divorce filed, custody struggles (currently joint legal/nearly joint physical), and since then our divorce has been tied up in court since then because we have created new case law in the state of Maryland regarding embryo custody. My wife is attempting to use our last embryo for intent of pregnancy and I was attempting to avoid further procreation with her since there was no salvaging our marriage. Since everything is a matter of public record a search of " jocelyn p vs. joshua p " will yield you plenty of details if you wanted to vet me. I only ask that our privacy be respected for safety reasons.
To date my earnings and support from family, friends, and church have contributed to nearly $110,000 of payments to my law firm in an attempt to avoid forced parenthood and finalize our divorce. At the turn of the year, my credit cards have become maxed out and no further external support is available. We are still dealing with the embryo issue and have yet to tackle the divorce issue until our "special marital property" is resolved.
The second week of October I was informed by my "Father's Rights" firm that they would no longer represent me due to my unpaid balance of $20,000, effective this week. I need to remedy this balance to keep representation because this is no "simple" divorce.
Normally my day to day expenses I can handle, but I can't make any headway in paying off my debt to the firm for retaining counsel moving forward, let alone trying to pay off just over $30,000 in credit card debt. Due to my credit card debt I am hitting roadblocks obtaining a home equity line of credit or personal loan large enough for my circumstances. I'm a Paramedic and now Instructor for a career metropolitan fire department in Maryland for over twenty years, and started as a volunteer in EMS and Fire beginning in the late 90's.
My desire is to simply survive this chapter of life and keep being the father my son needs, showing that perseverance will overcome the adversity that happens in life and it's ok to ask for help when you need it.
