“Father and son “ - have courage to hold your fathers hand

Donation protected
“Sometimes decades pass between the moment we let go of our father’s hand and the moment we have the courage to hold it again.”

In his deceptively simple photographs, Valery Poshtarov, a world renowned , yet modest human and photographer, pushes against the narrow confines of modern masculinity to capture moments of tenderness between fathers and their sons.

I am a mother of a daughter , an a daughter of a father who died at the peak of his life 42 . Fathers are hugely important figures in our lives , so are men. Valery’s project has brought many fathers and sons physically and emotionally together for the first time in decades . It’s not typical for fathers and their grown up sons to hold hands and be close in a physical way as it might be more natural for the mother .

Why should you care? Physical touch and closeness between male family members brings about joy, peace and intimacy in the community and it’s great for the family and everyone around .

Let’s help Valery continue bringing communities together and creating an intimate opportunity for Fathers and Sons.

Poshtarov, a Bulgarian artist, began the series after making a portrait of his father and grandfather. From his own personal sphere, he branched outwards to explore the complex spectrum of meaning that is held within this act in other men’s relationships.

Asking his subjects a straightforward request—to hold hands—he captures what happens when two adult men return to a gesture so elemental to our image of parent-child relationships. “The journey of a man often involves different phases—from denial and rebellion against the world to realization and acceptance,” Poshtarov notes. “Sometimes decades pass between the moment we let go of our father’s hand and the moment we have the courage to hold it again.”

Valery is coming to the Alpes in the small commune of Passy , to capture and bring togetherness to this special community in the centre of Haute Savoir .

Any contributions would go for travel and substainance expenses and to gift a photo to the participants .
