Help Jacob Bring His Son Home Where He Belongs
Hi, my name is Lee Anne, and I’m reaching out as a mother and grandmother who is fighting alongside my son, Jacob, for something every parent deserves—the right to raise his own child.
Jacob is currently in Vancouver, locked in a heart-wrenching legal battle for full custody of his son, Louis. A year ago, without Jacob’s knowledge or consent, Louis was given to extended family members by his mother, who made the heartbreaking decision to step away from parenting. Since then, Jacob has been fighting with everything he has to bring his little boy home to the Yukon—where he belongs, with his dad.
This has been an emotional and exhausting journey. When Jacob traveled to Vancouver to be reunited with Louis, the relatives refused to tell him where his son was. Even the police and Child and Family Services said there was no legal reason keeping Jacob from having his child, but without a formal guardianship order, no one could help. All Jacob had was Louis' birth certificate showing he’s the father—and still, that wasn’t enough.
Despite these roadblocks, Jacob hasn’t given up. He’s been working through Legal Aid to secure time with Louis, and has made progress. But now, those relatives are applying for full guardianship—something we believe they have no right to do.
Here’s where we need your help.
A respected family law lawyer wants to take on Jacob’s case to ensure justice is served. However, their services come at a cost: $24,000. Legal Aid has helped us this far, but this lawyer’s involvement could be the key to bringing Louis home for good.
Jacob is a devoted, loving father. He has stood strong where many might have walked away. He’s never stopped fighting for his son, and I couldn’t be more proud of him. As his mother—and as Louis’ grandmother—I’m doing everything I can to support them.
Our family is Indigenous, and Louis deserves to grow up connected to his roots. His great-grandfather, a Métis elder, gave him the name “Walking Bear.” He’s been prevented from seeing Louis, and it breaks our hearts. Our culture, our stories, and our love are all waiting for this little boy back home in the Yukon.
Please help us raise the funds needed to cover legal fees and finally bring Louis home to his dad. Every donation, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to reuniting father and son.
Thank you for reading our story. Thank you for believing in the power of family.
With gratitude,
Lee Anne
