Farmer Support Stipend

Dear friends of local farmers,
Slow Food STL’s mission is to promote GOOD, CLEAN, FAIR food in the greater Saint Louis area. We have been advocating for small family farmers in our region for over a decade.
We are seeking emergency funds for small family farmers who are hit hard by farmers market closings, restaurant services cancellations, and other sudden losses of income. Any little bit you are able to contribute will go a long way for the growers and producers in our network.
As food advocates, we believe that access to local, sustainable food is essential during these uncertain times. Unfortunately, the farmers in our region have experienced serious disruptions due to the Covid-19 virus, in some cases losing all of the income they were counting on for the spring season.
Funds will be given to farmers within the Known & Grown program who have filled out the required application . Known & Grown farmers have made a commitment to environmental sustainability - they don’t use synthetic chemicals on pastures or produce, they give their livestock access to pasture, and they are good stewards of our shared resources: land, air, and water.
Funds will be distributed in the amount of $100 stipends as soon as they become available. Note: you must sign up for PayPal to receive any funds. We want to help as many farmers as possible so we are capping stipends at $100. If we have extra funding at the close of the fundraiser, we will distribute it evenly to all of the farmers who applied for a stipend.

If you would like to purchase food from farmers in the Known & Grown STL network, check out this online spreadsheet, which contains up-to-date info about online farm stores, farmers markets, retailers, and deliveries during the Coronavirus crisis. Other ways to support farmers while receiving safe, healthy, local food is to join a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture program). We suggest Fair Shares CCSA or Local Harvest’s CSA. Tower Grove Farmers Market launched an online ordering system today and Eat Here St. Louis will be making deliveries this Saturday!
