Farm Rebuilding After Florence

Red Beard Farms
Red Beard Farms, founded by Morgan Milne, is a small family-owned sustainable farm in Willard, NC (~30 min from Wilmington), committed to providing quality vegetables to their local community. Prior to Hurricane Florence, Red Beard Farms was preparing for what they'd hoped to be a fruitful Fall planting and harvesting season, with Fall crop proceeds to be used to finish building a greenhouse. The new greenhouse would help expand production capabilities for the Winter and Spring growing seasons.
Hurricane Florence Damage
Hurricane Florence brought widespread devastation to Eastern NC and the surrounding areas, with local farmers being hit hard, both from direct damage to crops and structures, and limited distribution capabilities due to damage and flooding to local roads. Farmers located north of Wilmington, NC are specifically having a difficult time getting their products to local markets and restaurants, with Highway 421 and Interstate 40 closed as of Sept 23, 2018.
Red Beard Farms lost the majority of their Fall crop, suffered damage to their barn and house roof, and lost one of their fridges used to store produce between harvesting and deliveries. Their Fall crop was planned to produce ~1,000 pounds of squash, 3-400 pounds of pickling cucumbers, 100 pounds of okra per week, and 4,500 row feet of carrots (hoped to be worth $3-4,000 alone). They also lost other crops, including broccoli, cauliflower, red and green cabbage, collards, peppers, and kale. <before and after photos below>

How Your Support Will Help
The Milne Family is extremely appreciative of all the support, prayers, and well wishes they've received to date. By choosing to support them financially through this fundraising campaign, they will be better able to salvage a Fall harvest (by purchasing seeds, transplants, and fertilizer, as well as pay for labor to clear field damage and re-plant), repair the barn roof and siding, purchase a new fridge, and help in general to recoup the financial loss of their original Fall crop due to the storm.
If you'd like to lend a hand and help with the rebuilding on the farm, please contact Morgan Milne directly at [email redacted].
Please feel free to share this fundraising campaign with your friends and family, and thank you again for all the love you all have already shown the Milne Family at Red Beard Farms!
(The youngest Milne learning the ropes already)
