Hi my name is Nash, I’m starting this fundraiser to help a family in need. A household of 7, which includes a single father and his 6 children, 3 boys and 3 girls. I met the father at work, when he came to purchase a few blocks. He purchases the blocks in small quantities with the little money he has and is accumulating them until he is able to start building his home. He explained to me it would take him a few years to start his home but that he had to start some where. They all sleep in one bedroom with two beds with no bathroom. In place of a bathroom they have a latrine in their yard. With no closets or storage space they hang their clothes on strings across the house. When it rains their house gets flooded to the point that their dogs can’t be on the floor because they could drown. They have to place their stove and fridge on top of blocks so that they don’t get ruined. The father works as a motoconcho, which is a small motorcycle that is used as a cheap taxi service in the Dominican Republic. Rides typically run for under a dollar, but can be at most two dollars. Hence the lack of funds to build a solid home for his family. It didn’t really hit me until I saw their living situation with my own eyes. It made me reflect on how I have it all, but still find myself complaining. After seeing the situation I decided I wanted to help find the funds to build them a home in time for Christmas and that’s where you come in. Let’s help this family by helping them build a safe home.

Hola mi nombre es Nash, Estoy comenzando esta recaudación de fondos para ayudar a una familia necesitada. Un hogar de 7, que incluye un padre soltero y sus 6 hijos, 3 niños y 3 niñas. Conocí al padre en el trabajo, cuando vino a comprar unas cuadras. Compra los bloques en pequeñas cantidades con el poco dinero que tiene y los va acumulando hasta que pueda empezar a construir su casa. Me explicó que le tomaría algunos años comenzar su hogar pero que tenía que comenzar en algún lugar. Todos duermen en un dormitorio con dos camas sin baño. En lugar de un baño tienen una letrina en su patio. Sin armarios ni espacio de almacenamiento, cuelgan su ropa en cuerdas por toda la casa. Cuando llueve, su casa se inunda hasta el punto de que sus perros no pueden estar en el suelo porque podrían ahogarse. Tienen que colocar su estufa y refrigerador encima de bloques para que no se arruinen. El padre trabaja como motoconcho, que es una pequeña motocicleta que se utiliza como servicio de taxi económico en República Dominicana. Los viajes generalmente cuestan menos de un dólar, pero pueden costar como máximo dos dólares. De ahí la falta de fondos para construir un hogar sólido para su familia. Realmente no me di cuenta hasta que vi su situación de vida con mis propios ojos. Me hizo reflexionar sobre cómo lo tengo todo, pero aún me encuentro quejándome. Después de ver la situación, decidí que quería ayudar a encontrar los fondos para construirles una casa a tiempo para Navidad y ahí es donde entras tú. Ayudemos a esta familia ayudándoles a construir un hogar seguro.
