Familymoon Surprise for Derrick

A Familymoon Surprise

First, thank you for taking the time to read this! I would say I’ll try to keep it short, but I tend to be on the overly talkative/long winded side ;-)

Over the last 4 years we have had to change, schedule and reschedule so much because of my surgeries that I’m confident in saying we are now bonafide experts on changing plans and rolling with it. So, when we had to change our wedding plans because of COVID - we rolled with it.  We originally scheduled our wedding for December 20th 2020, had picked a wedding venue and I had found a dress but then COVID happened and by the end of April we knew we were going to have change plans again. So, we rented a larger home and began planning to have a mini ceremony ( 10-15 people ) while still keeping our December 20th date … and of course making the best of it! Then the borders closed! This meant that many of our friends and family would not be able to come. This was followed by a few more hiccups (one of them being my dress! Long story but I will also need to wait until our TBD date to wear it too) that we ended up having to cancel everything once again and go back to the proverbial drawing board!

We went back and forth so many times as to what to do.  With the complexities ahead of us regarding my work visa, we couldn’t fully postpone our legal union, and of course, we wanted to set a good example for Diego and Delilah by following the rules and not hosting a large COVID spreading event. So, we decided on  a courthouse wedding with just the kids and the larger wedding (with the dress) and all is TBD.  This was a tough call for both of us. It’s definitely disappointing and while we are experts at rolling with it, I know that Derrick is especially disappointed. I know I’ve shared just how much Derrick has supported and taken care of me through my never ending surgeries and now that I’m on the better side of it,  I needed to at least TRY to do what I can to end 2020 with something special and so, I’m asking for some help!

I’m asking for your help to give Derrick, Diego and Delilah what I’m calling A Familymoon Surprise! - I want to surprise Derrick and the Kids with a trip to Maryland and here’s why:

Derrick’s entire family (his mum alone has something like 7 sisters!) lives in and around Maryland and many of them have been hit hard because of COVID and others are simply not able to travel at all. So, I want to try to surprise Derrick and the kids with a wedding present - a familymoon trip to Maryland for us to see everyone Summer 2021. Diego and Delilah have not seen Derrick’s side of the family in over 6 years!!! While I try not to think about just how much money my endless number of  surgeries have cost us … I know that it is one of the larger reasons why we haven’t been able to take all four of us to see everyone in Derrick’s family. Derrick continues to support me and take care of us, never asking for anything in return and I wanted… no, I needed to, at least try to make this as special as possible for him. Plus I know deep down, it hurts him as he wants the kids to get to meet / see everyone in person.

But wait, there’s more …

So, on December 22nd Derrick thinks we are going to the courthouse BUT we are actually going to be getting married in the exact same spot that Derrick proposed to me!! One of my former students, who has now become a dear family friend and amazing mentor to Diego, Jareck White, is legally certified to marry us and will be performing the ceremony! The only help I need from all of you is TO NOT SAY ANYTHING TO DERRICK!!!! Keeping this a surprise is SO HARD but I know pulling this off is going to be truly unforgettable.

*** If you are in the area and would like to show up at this impromptu fully outdoor ceremony please DM me and I’ll send you the details. Masks will obviously be required

***(https://gograpevine.com/listing/town-square/ ) This is where Derrick proposed on Christmas Eve.  If you google Grapevine Texas and just look at the images from previous years, you’ll see just how amazing everything looks at Christmas time!.

I know that many of you are going through your own struggles, so I’ll always accept positive thoughts and funny memes but if you can contribute I know for certain, there will be a lot of really happy people and most definitely A LOT of tears if I can successfully pull this off with help from all of you

Derrick and Diego do not have facebook (but they both have Instagram) so again, I’m hoping I can keep this from them until the big reveal ( on December 22)

Thank you in advance for all the kindness so many of you have shown to us, I am forever grateful. I will keep everyone updated! Now cross your fingers and toes, and whatever else and hopefully this will all work out!

Much love, light and peace
