Family needs your Support and Aloha

Aloha,

My name is Akala.  I am from Keaukaha-Hilo, Hawai'i.  I am asking you for help to support my family.  My husband, Jefri, is from La Barranca-Copan, Honduras.  Jefri and I really need your prayers, good thoughts, and especially your financial support at this difficult time. Jefri is currently being delayed on his immigration case in Honduras, away from me and our 9-month old son, Jeffrey.  Jefri had been pardoned by the United States government for being in the United States without documentation.  However, his process is being delayed in Honduras, keeping him away from us since March of this year.  We have been given no time frame for his return.

I have had to leave my job and our home of 5 years in New Jersey to return home to Hawai'i to live with my parents because of this situation and because I need support as Jefri and I are expecting our second son in two months.  Without Jefri's physical support, I have been forced to use public assistance in Hawai'i to take care of myself, my son, and my son-to-be.  Mahalo ke Akua, thank God, for the public assistance I am fortunate to receive to help raise our family. It is stressful for all of us not knowing when we will be together again.

We are asking for financial help because our situation is forcing us to do this process all over again, with the help of our lawyer who we have had for the last four years. It has already cost us over $5,000 in savings.  Jefri and I have been spending all our savings to follow the law that the United States wants us to follow.

I went with Jefri to Honduras along with our son in March of this year, and stayed there for one whole month to make sure that Jefri followed all the rules and answered all the questions that the United States government asked him at the United States Embassy in Honduras at his scheduled interview for residency.  We were sure at that time that the process would take no more than one month. Our lawyer had advised us that this was the standard time frame for cases like ours, especially since all the legal requirements had been met.  We had not been told that we would have to wait longer for the process to be complete until we went to the United States Embassy in Honduras for my husband's interview.  Now we find out that we may have to spend even more of our personal earnings and financial resources to repeat the same process to ensure that my husband and the father of my sons comes home safely and sooner rather than later. Thus, our second son is coming and I am unable to provide financial assistance on my own to undergo this process again. We need to prepare for that day.

Mahalo Ke Akua, thank God, that our family here in Hawai'i is doing all they can do to help us, but they have had to sacrifice their personal resources to assist us as well.  We know that with Aloha, love and compassion, everything will turn out well eventually.

I am a Kumu Hula, or master in Hula and cultural arts, and have taught in various locations around the United States and overseas.  I am a graduate of the University of Portland with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and minors in Spanish and French.  I am also a graduate of Seton Hall University with a Master of Arts in Diplomacy and International Relations, specializing in Negotiation and Mediation and International Law and Human Rights.  I am fluent in English, Hawaiian, Spanish, and French.

It was at the Seton Hall University campus where Jefri and I were married on July 9, 2014.  We just celebrated our fourth anniversary via internet a few days ago.  We met on July 4, 2013, when I went to buy a pork butt at the store to make Kalua pig, a Hawaiian delicacy, to celebrate July 4th, and he was the butcher.  We conversed, we fell in love, we are in love, and will continue to be in love for the rest of our lives.

Jefri and I  believe in God and we believe that God is love and when we live in love we live in God.  We are grateful for the many blessings that God gives us each and every day.  We are grateful for the opportunity to share our love and our family with you all.  If you are able to help us financially, we would be forever grateful.  If you cannot, we would appreciate it if you could please pray for us and send us positive thoughts and wishes.  We know that with God, all things are possible.  And with your support and the love from communities everywhere, we know that all things are possible.  Aloha, love and compassion, always wins!

We welcome you to check our information thoroughly and to converse with us regarding any questions or concerns you may have about our situation.  You may contact my father, Kumu Paul K. Neves at [phone redacted] or at [email redacted], or myself at [phone redacted] or at [email redacted].  Jefri and I promise you that we will give you a weekly update on our situation and the status of our progress to reaching our goal.  In the Hawaiian culture, we believe that when one of our people suffers, we all suffer; therefore, when one rejoices, we all rejoice!  God bless all of you!  May love always prevail in your lives!
