My name is Katelyn Quino, and I’m reaching out with an urgent and heartfelt plea for help. On Friday, December 20, 2024, my dad, Nicolas Chocoj-Quino, was detained by immigration authorities and initially held at the Moshannon Valley ICE Processing Center in Pennsylvania. He has since been transferred to Pine Prairie ICE Processing Center in Louisiana, further isolating him and putting his life at even greater risk.
This holiday season, instead of being with his family, my dad has been locked in an ICE facility. He’s not only suffering from the emotional pain of family separation but also battling serious medical conditions that have been grossly neglected. Just days before his detention, he suffered a heart attack. Despite repeated pleas for medical attention and the provision of a cardiologist’s letter detailing his urgent need for care, his condition has been ignored.
Since his detention, my dad has reported severe chest pain and numbness in his left arm—early warning signs of a potential stroke. Yet, no proper medical evaluation or care has been provided. The systemic neglect at these facilities, operated by the GEO Group, has made a dire situation even worse.
My dad has always been the heart of our family—especially for my three younger sisters, Katie (14), Lesley (10), and Sofia (5). He has been our provider, our source of stability, and our greatest supporter. Now, we face the harsh reality of family separation, and we need your help.
