Family in Crisis: Fighting for Stability and a Safe Place

Hi, my name is Jiana. I’m here with my husband Samuel, my mom, my brothers, and our little dog Milo.

This year has been one of the hardest times of our lives. In February, we were forced to leave our home in Connecticut after dealing with a landlord who refused to fix major issues in the house, including black mold that was making us sick. With no safe place to stay, we packed up and left Connecticut, hoping for a fresh start.

We first went to New York, trying to get back on our feet, but after more unexpected challenges, we came to Maryland in early May, hoping this would finally be the place where we could rebuild. Things have not gone the way we hoped.

After my mom lost her job, and the severance she was owed was delayed for months, our situation became even harder. Samuel works every day, but his pay just barely covers the hotel nights. Every dollar we have goes toward keeping a roof over our heads, which leaves us stuck and unable to save for a real home.

We have now been living in hotels since April, doing everything we can to survive each day. We are applying for apartments and jobs. I am actively looking too, but it's hard to move forward when we're stuck in survival mode. The stress and exhaustion have taken a toll on all of us, but we refuse to give up.

We are seeking help so that we can finally break this cycle. Donations will help us cover:

• First month’s rent and security deposit for an apartment

• Bills that are preventing us from getting approved

• Food, gas, and daily essentials for our family and Milo

• A small cushion to help us get stable and move forward
