Family Home Stolen

My name is Stephanie Dumois, wife to Steven and mom to Ezekiel,Maxwell, Alaina and Samantha.

My mom was Laura Scotvold who went to heaven on Oct 4, 2024.

My mom bought her home with grand plans from the beginning to give the house to me and my family that came later.

This journey started last September in me uprooting my family from Miami to move back to CA to help care for my mom while she was on hospice and to mourn her loss & grieve with a man we thought of us as Dad & grandpa.

However the following has transpired and has shook our world.

On my mom’s 6 month mark of being in heaven my mom’s widower brought home a homeless woman that was a bed guest at the shelter my mom previously ran and now he is the acting intern director.

The widower brought a completely strange woman into the family home with all her stuff and proceeded to tell my 13 year old that she is moving in and he is getting married. No discussion or warning to the adults in the home.

My 13 year old called my husband hysterically crying as we were on a date night. We rushed home and made the woman leave the house as she was not welcome.

After a few weeks of not budging on my stance a meeting was held in our home and mediated by a Pastor. There was no agreement however in this meeting it came out that I am not his daughter - even though he has been in my life the last 29 years. Myself and my children were disowned by the man we thought of as Dad and Grandpa.

Any and all living wills, trusts etc that if/were worked on were never finished and legalized. He’s chosen to evict us from the home that was promised to me and was acknowledged out of his own mouth in the eulogy he shared. We are being removed so quickly so that this women can have a paid residence as her temporary half way housing ends very soon. 

He has started the paperwork of evicting us from the family home - stating he wants his property back, even though he still lives here. Additionally he won’t even agree to have a prenup signed or a notarized letter to protect the home for future generations.

In all that we needing to relocate quickly

as this situation is having a negative impact on all our mental health especially the children. We were not prepared for this situation to arise in a million years as we had just moved back in September from Miami per request.

All funds will be used to help secure a new place and pay for a moving truck.
