I am not sure where to begin, because honestly my incredible best friend, Sarah is so much more then this part of her life.  She has always been known as the strong one of the group, the fighter and the doer.  She has come across a lot of trials in her life, but this battle has been the hardest.  Sarah is a 34 year old single mom of 4, full time employee, on the board of Erie House, Chicago Public Schools advocate for children, you name it, she probably did it.  If she wasn't at work, at a CPS meeting, Erie House benefit, at a school event or fundraiser, she was probably helping a friend.  You think she had her hands full, but if you needed her she was there always.  She always showed up, so I am trying with all I have to show up for her and those who matter to her most, her kids.  

My best friend and all around bad ass woman was recently told her almost 2 year battle with cervical cancer has taken its toll.  The cancer has spread to various parts of her body and there is no additional treatment for her to undergo or that her body can survive.  She was just put on hospice and they are doing there job at keeping her as comfortable as possible. 

During her fight with the cancer monster, her and her children had to quickly move from their 3rd floor apartment and stay with family.  The cancer had spread and caused irreversible damage to her spinal cord and she was unable to walk back up the stairs.  The family was hoping to relocate somewhere more easily accessible, but everything happened so quickly, they were left with limited options.  I would love to see them in a home of their own, as I know that is my best friends greatest wish.  

Sarah never complains, never asks for help, its even frustrating at times being her friend and wanting to help and not knowing how or what she needs.  But I put it in God's hands and let him guide me.  One thing I know is her greatest victory are her children, Leila 13, Samina 11, Fatima 10 and Ezra 4.  I want her to have peace in her heart knowing they will always be taken care of, and have not only the support of family and friends but also her community and the city she loves so dearly.  Sarah has always looked out for her community and has been an advocate and it's my hope that commitment is paid forward.  I am hoping to not only bless them now during the holiday season but for her to see they will have the love and support for years to come and moving forward through their lives.
