2 weeks ago, my mom, Sheena Oliveira, was taken into the Hanford ER where they sent her home. The next day, she was taken back in where they believed she had a stroke. She was admitted and she laid in a regular hospital room, declining rapidly. She was moved to ICU, unable to talk, eat, and almost full body paralysis, and placed on a ventilator. Tuesday night, she was airlifted to UCSF where this amazing team has cared for her and diagnosed her with a severe case of Guillain-Barré.

She had surgery yesterday and had a trach placed for long-term breathing assistance.

She is still in ICU and unable to move or talk, but she is alert and able to nod. She has a very long road ahead.

Next week, the plan is to send her to a step-down hospital from ICU but still receive critical care and rehabilitation once she is ready.

As many of you know, she doesn't like to be alone, so we are doing our very best to be by her side every single day, especially through her transition of moving and beginning further treatment.
