No family ever imagines they will lose everything in the blink of an eye.
For my dear friend and her family, that nightmare became reality when a devastating house fire tore through their home, leaving nothing behind but ashes and heartbreak.
Inside that home were years of memories, treasured keepsakes, family photos, and every necessity they depended on. In just moments, it was all gone.
My disabled friend, her husband, their adoptive daughter, and their two young grandchildren were able to escape with their lives—but only with the clothes on their backs.
Her husband is courageously fighting Stage IV kidney cancer. Every day is a battle, and he relies on home dialysis to stay alive. Living solely on SSD, they were already doing everything they could just to make ends meet. Now, they have been left with absolutely nothing.
As if losing their home wasn’t enough, two of their beloved dogs were trapped inside the burning house. Firefighters fought not only to save the family, but their four-legged family members as well. One of the dogs had to be brought back to life after firefighters pulled them from the smoke and flames. Both dogs now need veterinary care, adding painful and unexpected medical bills to an already unimaginable tragedy.
The Red Cross has graciously provided the family with a hotel room for two weeks, giving them a brief moment to catch their breath. But when those two weeks are over, they have nowhere to go.
Today, they are facing the impossible task of rebuilding their lives from nothing. They need a safe place to live, food to put on the table, clothing for every member of the family, hygiene essentials, medications, household necessities, dog food, and help covering the veterinary care that saved their beloved pets.
This family has spent their lives caring for one another through illness, hardship, and sacrifice. Opened their home to people in need countless times. Now, they are the ones who need someone to care for them.
If you can find it in your heart to give, no matter the amount, you will be helping restore more than a home—you’ll be giving this family hope during one of the darkest moments of their lives. And if you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser with others is a powerful way to help.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your compassion, your prayers, and your generosity. Together, we can remind this family that even after everything is lost, they are not alone.
