Faith Over Fear: Supporting Ronnie’s Fight Against Cancer
Donation protected
We received the difficult news he has been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer. As you can imagine, this has been an emotional time for our family as we begin to navigate the path ahead.
Right now, we’re focused on getting answers, beginning treatment, and, most importantly—surrounding him with prayer, love, strength, and unwavering support. He’s staying positive, and so are we. While this journey won’t be easy, we know without a doubt that God is in control and He is bigger than cancer.
As a family, we’re taking things one day at a time and placing our trust fully in the Lord. His peace has been with us every step so far, and we’re leaning into that with hope and faith. Yesterday morning, just hours after we were blindsided with the diagnosis, I was driving the girls to school when I saw a rainbow in the clouds. It wasn’t raining, and the sun wasn’t shining—but there it was, clear and unexpected. Later that day, while I was sitting with him at the hospital, a storm rolled through. As the rain began to fade, I looked out the window and saw one of the brightest, most beautiful rainbows I’ve seen in a long time. In both moments, I felt God’s presence and was reminded of His promises. Even in the midst of uncertainty and storms, He shows us that He is near.
So, I am asking my friends to storm the gates of heaven with prayer. Our God is the God of miracles! We’re deeply grateful for the love and encouragement we’ve already received. As you can imagine, Mom and Ronnie are at the hospital dealing with doctors coming in and out and have not had a chance to respond to all the phone calls and texts they have received, so I will do my best to share updates and respond to messages as we walk this road together.
They would never ask for help themselves, but I’m willing to do anything I can to ease even a small part of the burden they’re facing. Without insurance, the upcoming costs—travel, medications, and ongoing care—will be significant.
Love your people and hug them tight. ❤️❤️
UPDATE (04/17)
We’ve been prayerfully waiting for test results to guide the next steps in Ronnie’s treatment. After four MRIs, we received hopeful news today. By the grace of God, the cancer has not spread to his brain. We’re so thankful for that answered prayer. However, additional spots were found on his spine, so doctors will begin treatment there. His first round of radiation is scheduled for tomorrow or Saturday.
We are still waiting to hear from another oncologist about the plan for the other areas, but after the initial treatment, he’ll be coming home. Future radiation treatments will be done at Christ, possibly five days a week for now. Through it all, we’re holding on to the promise of Romans 12:12: “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
We’re especially grateful we’ll be together as a family for Easter—another reminder of God’s faithfulness and the beauty of new beginnings. Ronnie and Mom continue to remain strong in their faith, taking each day as it comes, trusting that God is walking with them every step of the way.
Ronnie and Mom continue to stay strong and are taking things one day at a time. The love, prayers, and support we’ve already received have been absolutely overwhelming in the best way. Our family, friends, and community have shown us so much kindness, and it truly means more than words can say.
