Welcome to Fáilte Aisling.
We are an Irish Government approved Community Sponsorship Group, working on behalf of an incredible young Afghan Woman, whom we have called Aisling, as we cannot use her name due to concerns for her safety under the current Taliban regime in Afghanistan. A Community Sponsorship Group is an Irish government initiative enabling us to welcome refugees into our local area and support them as they rebuild their lives. One of the government’s criteria is that the Support Group must raise €10,000, which is used to cover all expenses when the refugee first arrives in Ireland.
Aisling has been approved under the Irish Refugee Protection Programme to move to Ireland, and we already have put accommodation in place and have a group of passionate and committed professionals in place to support her in all aspects of her new life in Ireland once she arrives.
Aisling is 23 years old and urgently needs our help as she is in immediate danger. As one of the Afghan generations that lived most of her life under the International Coalition occupation of Afghanistan from 2001 – 2021, she had access to primary, secondary and 3rd level education, and took full advantage of the opportunities offered to her. From a young age, Aisling always dreamed of being a dentist, and she completed 5 years of her dental degree in Herat University in Afghanistan, excelling in all her studies and activities while in university. However, in 2021 as soon as the Taliban regained power, her time in university ended abrupt, indeed most aspects of her life came to an end. She came onto the radar of Taliban because of her ‘lack of compliance’, both by starting her book club and continued activism to protest against the closing of education to girls and to reopen access to education to them. She is in danger of getting forcefully married to one of the Taliban leaders and her parents are under extreme pressure to comply with this.
We live in a world where there are some many competing causes that are worthy of our attention and participation. Aisling is a wonderful, bright, loving, and ambitious young women who can make an amazing contribution to Irelands future. As a Group we believe her cause is a perfect example of a mutually beneficial immigration policy and have no doubt of her future productive contribution to our country and maybe in time, also be a position to contribute to Afghan society again.
Everyone that contributes to our cause will play their part in this most worthy cause and we urge you to consider her plight and donating, however small the contribution. All funds are used to support integration needs.
On Aisling’s behalf: Go raibh maith agat !
