Facilitate Free Furniture Pop-ups Across NYCHA
Donation protected

Hi, my name is Regina Carter I am a firm believer in the home space being a reflection of your mental health. At Repurposed Life Inc, the aim is to distribute gently used furniture that was slated for a landfill and through this initiative, will be rescued from that fate and given to families in need. Reducing our carbon footprint and reducing waste.
Furniture is a very expensive commodity that is often looked over in favor of more essential items, like food or medicine. Having a dining room table and eating meals with your family side-by-side, being able to gather in the living room for family time & having a place to put your clothing that is not a plastic bag or a box is important.
As a NYCHA employee and a community advocate I see families & seniors everyday that live on a fixed income & furniture is a huge expense. The dresser drawers no longer open without a fight, the table/chair legs are wobbly, some furniture deteriorated to the point where it barely functions.
I currently have done 12 pop-up distributions, furnished 3 community spaces, donated items to 2 community schools, and 4 community based organizations here in the Bronx. I want to expand to other communities in NYC and help more people. These funds will allow us to start that outreach process: onboarding volunteers, transportation, building a network, & cover the cost to rent a space for storage etc. This initiative is run solely by volunteers in the community and I am currently working on becoming a non-profit.
Every single cent will be put into picking up and transporting furniture to homes and families in need.
Each Uhaul rental will cost me $200, $100-$106 for the van, $20 tolls, $30 gas, and $50 round trip to the Uhaul and back home again.
