We are a group of first year students studying at Chichester University. We are working on a social welfare project to raise awareness of the issues surrounding period poverty.

Trust for London reports that in 2023, 2.8 million people in the U.K struggled to afford period products which translated to 1 in 5 women feeling unable to purchase products. This figure was up by 11% from the previous year. With products increased in cost by 27%.

The average cycle, costs between £1.26 for supermarket own brand value range and £5.25 for a named product with sanitary pads, and £1.96 to £6.50 for tampons. With the cost of food rising, many women are having to choose between eating and hygiene.

The proceeds of this fundraiser will be donated to charities within the West Sussex community, including food bank donations, women fleeing domestic abuse and a local homeless shelter to provide feminine hygiene products to help combat period poverty.

As you can see the costs vary, but if you are able to kindly to make the £5 donation then that will provide basic sanitary products for three women.
