Leap of Faith

Hello everyone, I’m Claire Rice, 18 months ago I struggled to step foot out of the house and now on 30th May 2025 I am stepping foot out of a plane at 11,000 feet. Addiction is a frighteningly destructive and often heart-wrenchingly fatal illness, addiction isn’t picky or choosy about who it gets ahold of, it can affect anyone at anytime. A while ago I was ready to give up, I had almost given up both mentally and physically, I’d mostly lost all hope of having a decent quality of life ever again. I was told the outlook wasn’t looking good by medical professionals. This post isn’t designed to be a sob story, far from it; it’s a story of hope, faith, belief and personal success so far.

Together with the help from my beloved family, my dear friends, some incredible professionals and a lot of hard work, determination and self belief (something I have struggled with most of my life); I am lucky enough to be where I am today.

So I am marking my one year of sobriety by doing this nerve wrackingly huge leap, to mark the life changing huge leap of faith I took 365 days ago on 30th May 2024.

The skydive itself is funded by myself but I would like to raise money for local service based on The Wirral who are incredibly close to my heart who have not only helped me tremendously but go on to help and support hundreds of other people whom are battling with addiction across The Wirral every single day. Any monies raised will go to Wirral Ways. The staff at Wirral Ways really are outstanding, they’re dedicated, loyal and incredibly committed and passionate about what they do. I wouldn’t be where I am right now without the services they provide.

If I can inspire only one other person to seek help for themselves or their loved ones battling with addiction then that will bring me a lot of happiness.

My Skydive will take place at Black Nights Skydiving Centre Lancaster Friday 30.05.2025.

Yes I will be a tremendously big bag of nerves, but I am doing this to mark one tremendous year of growth; they say do one thing that scares you… well I’m not doing this one by halves!

Thanks again to every single person who has helped me and been there for me, family and friends who have stuck by me, beautiful new friends I have made along the way and all these wonderful new beginnings I am lucky enough to embrace and experience at every corner. Life really can be beautiful.
