Ezra Kilinahe Smith was born on June 21, 2019. Ezra suffered from (MAS) at birth. MAS is meconium aspiration syndrome also known as neonatal aspiration of meconium. It is a medical condition affecting newborn infants. Meconium, baby's first poop, is a viscous and sticky tar like substance. Upon his arrival into the world Ezra inhaled and ingested the amniotic fluid that was mixed with his meconium. Immediate medical attention was needed as the meconium coated his lungs causing his lungs to become inflamed and not work properly. He had to be hooked up to a breathing machine which pumped oxygen into his lungs. At around 1:30 in the morning the doctors informed us that they did all they could do and that Baby Ezra needed to be transported to Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children. Once Baby Ezra arrived to the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit blood work was done and tested positive for a bacterial infection, immediately antibiotics were administered. With the amazing help of the doctors and nurses Baby Ezra fought and within 12 days he progressed enough to go off his breathing apparatuses and antibiotics and was able to go home. We ask for your kokua to help us with the medical expenses incurred. For a moment we thought the outlook was bleak, but praise god that his hand was upon Baby Ezra and he pulled through.
From our ohana to yours we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Any little help is appreciated!
