Help Us Bridge the Hunger Gap: PA Students in Nebraska Taking Action Against Food Insecurity
Hi friends, supporters, and neighbors,
We are a group of Physician Assistants (PAs) and PA students from across Nebraska who believe that no one should ever have to choose between paying bills and putting food on the table. Every day, we see this struggle firsthand in our clinics, schools, and neighborhoods—and we refuse to look away.
Food insecurity in Nebraska is rising. Families are doing everything “right” but still falling short. As healthcare providers and students committed to health equity, we know that hunger isn’t just a social issue—it’s a health crisis. Lack of access to nutritious food leads to higher rates of chronic illness, depression, anxiety, and developmental issues in children. It impacts learning, working, healing, and hope.
So we’re doing something about it.
This year, PA programs across Nebraska—working through the Nebraska Academy of PAs (NAPA) and the statewide Social Determinants of Health Collaborative—have launched an initiative to raise money and awareness for food insecurity in our communities. Our efforts include:
Fundraising to support local food banks and school pantry programs in Omaha, Lincoln, Kearney, and underserved rural areas
Creating educational materials that promote the link between food access and health outcomes
We’re not just talking about health equity—we’re stepping into it.
Where Your Donation Goes
100% of funds raised will directly support:
Food and basic essentials for families experiencing hunger
Even $10 provides a meal for a family of four, and $40 can sustain a family for several days. Every dollar truly matters.
Why This Matters
As future and current healthcare providers, we aren't just here to care for people inside exam rooms. We care about what happens in their homes, their schools, their kitchens. If we want to prevent illness instead of just treating it, we have to start with access—to care, to support, and to healthy food.
Please join us in this mission to nourish Nebraska—one family, one community, one act of kindness at a time.
Help us feed bodies, fuel hope, and build a healthier future.
With deep gratitude,
