We are a group of Buddhist Teachers and Friends who have been deeply touched by the teachings of Bhante Buddharakkhitta, and the great impact on the Dharma through his service through the Uganda Buddhist Centre (UBC).

UBC has the chance to permanently protect 13 acres of wetland here on the shores of Lake Nalubaale (Lake Victoria) — the source of the Nile, and land some believe to be the birthplace of humanity - and to expand the Uganda Buddhist Centre by building a retreat center; the first in history to be built for the sole purpose of sharing the Dhamma on the continent of Africa. If this land isn't secured now, it faces being lost to resort development or to a military base, which would bring noise, light, and waste pollution to a fragile ecosystem and threaten the food and water security of the schools, orphanage, and surrounding villages that depend on it.

The asking price of the land is $1.75 million. $760,000 has already been pledged by anonymous donors. We need to raise half for the deposit by September 15th and the remaining amount of $875,000 plus legal fees & taxes by November 15th.

This is an important and urgent opportunity! We know our collective community can together achieve this ambitious goal in support of the Dhamma if each of us considers what we value and offers a stretch gift. For some of us that might be $100,000, for others $1,000 or $100. It will take gifts at every level.
