Exoskeleton: the Dream of walking made Reality
Donation protected
Imagine believing your entire life that you will never be able to walk. But especially imagine, one day, being told that you would have the chance to experience it. How would you react? Those emotions, that feeling, will be the one felt by the kids at APAC, an association for kids with cerebral palsy in Mexico, when they are told that they can finally walk using the help of a pediatric gait exoskeleton.
What is APAC?
Cerebral Palsy is a cognitive disorder that heavily affects a person's ability to move, their muscle coordination, and their posture, and unfortunately, this affects over half a million people in Mexico. APAC (Association for People with Cerebral Palsy) is a not-for-profit organization based in Mexico City, founded in 1970, that gives specialized attention and help to people with palsy (https://apac.mx/que-es-apac/ to learn more).
I am very passionate about collaborating with them as I have personally worked with them since I was 8 years old. I have spent weeks working, playing and interacting with the kids in their classrooms and I have also organized various fundraisers to donate wheelchairs, masks and gloves during the pandemic. They constantly look for opportunities to improve the quality of life of their members and this is how this project was born.
What is our mission?
Recently, we have embarked on a project to purchase the only approved pediatric gait exoskeleton for kids (the ATLAS2030) from Spain and bring it to their center in Mexico City. This exoskeleton would change lives in many ways. It would allow the kids, who have spent their lives with minimal mobility in wheelchairs, an opportunity to step on their feet and learn to walk, while the exoskeleton reinforces the muscles in their body. Not only would it give them immense joy to see themselves on their feet for the first time ever, an give them an independence unlike any other they've had, but it has also been proven to help in the rehabilitation in their range of motion, strength and spacity.
