Exmoor Ride for RBL
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Claire and on Friday 8th August to Sunday 10th August 2025 I’m doing The Exmoor Ride for two reasons. Firstly and most importantly it’s to raise money for my local branch of the Royal British Legion that I am very passionate about. The branch has been going for nearly 100 years-our centenary is in 2027 and I want to do everything I can to keep it going and help it in supporting the local community. Myself and my horse Fly lead the Remembrance day parade that we have every year in November and it feels quite fitting that the both of us should take on this challenge together to raise vital funds for the branch so we can carry on supporting our local veterans and their families.
Secondly I’m doing it to challenge myself and my horses. You can do anything if you put your mind to it and so I’m going to push myself and do this challenge on my own with my horses and complete it.
My challenge:
To ride my horse Fly, along with my pony George-who will be my pack horse, over the course of three days to get from wiveliscombe where we live, to Dunkery Beacon-the highest point on Exmoor, and then back again on a circular route. We will camp overnight two times along the way. This will be a completely solo expedition. Just me, my horses and our equipment. We will have to ride along roads as well as bridle paths and byways, up and down steep hills and there will be some harsh terrain up on Exmoor to battle over as well. George will be carrying everything we need for the journey such as my tent and our food, and Fly will have to carry me, although I will help him by walking along side him occasionally.
I will have in place my farrier, vet and also my family all on call just incase they are needed. But hopefully not.
So please donate whatever you can to this worthy cause that looks after men and woman currently serving in the armed forces, veterans and their families.
