Exit 0 Founder Legal Fees and More
Donation protected
On December 1, Paul Stensrud, the founder of the local street outreach to the homeless Exit 0, was arrested at his family's home in Clarksville, Indiana. The home's front door was busted in and home was left in disarray. Press were tipped off the arrest would be made and were at the home when it was. Paul was charged with and media reported that, among other things, Paul was dealing cannabis and mushrooms containing psilocybin, a claim Paul and his wife Michele adamantly deny and believe will eventually be disproved.
This fundraising effort is supported by Paul and Michele. All proceeds will go directly to them with any amount above what is needed to pay or reimburse for legal fees being applied toward related costs such as the damaged front door, time off work, etc., and to help them otherwise recover.
No one individual has done more for Indiana's street homeless in the last 20 years than Paul. No one family has been as immersed in the work as Paul's and Michele's whether that has meant late nights tending to folks in camps in bitterly cold weather, spending holidays making those times better for those on the streets or actually sheltering people in their own home. Given the weather expected this Christmas, the family isn't planning a holiday together as Paul will instead be out making sure everyone is safe.
Their service hasn't been limited to homeless humans as they've also rescued and raised orphaned raccoons and squirrels and coordinated with animal rescue organizations to care for the pets of their clients.
What Paul has not done is be especially diplomatic when criticizing police, politicians, non-profits or the community at large for their treatment of those unsheltered. There is a strong sense this arrest, the inclusion of media and inaccurate accusations of dealing substances legal in other states and increasingly seen as safe and effective medicine by the medical community were influenced by personal and political grudges.
Please help make this family whole again and help them fight back against this unnecessary arrest and prosecution.
"We've been comforted and uplifted by the outpouring of support during this time, and sincerely appreciate any help that will allow us to continue to focus our attention and resources on our family and those we serve," Michele said.
