Exercise saved my life - help me pass on this gift

Donation protected
My name is Sarah and I am the Director of the Sarah Ford Foundation.
The Foundation, as it is affectionately known, is a registered not-for-profit with the Australian Not-for-profit and Charities Commission (ACNC).

The Sarah Ford Foundation's WHY

The Sarah Ford Foundation was established to be a charity whose purpose is to alleviate the negative impact of mental health symptoms and to assist in the prevention of the further deterioration of mental health; by providing exercise services to women who have experienced domestic violence, poverty and homelessness.

Sarah's Story

Exercise saved my life in 2005 after being diagnosed with generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), major depressive disorder (MDD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). After losing my identity and my purpose, exercise re-defined everything and changed my life in a pivotal way.
Not only did it help me physically, but mentally I found that it helped me to cope with the symptoms of the conditions I had been diagnosed with. It helped me to work through my issues and build inner strength and resilience. Through my exercise journey, I have found my true self that was hidden so deeply under the layers of pain that consumed me in the worst of my ill health.

I want to share the gift of exercise with women of all ages and within my local community. However, my main focus is working with those women who are survivors of family and domestic violence (FDV). I believe that these women deserve the tools to regain their physical and mental health and regain their lives. Whilst this process is complex, I am determined to make a difference in the lives of these women.

During 2025, we are aiming to build a strong financial base so that we may be able to:

Cover the costs of our annual insurance premium due in January 2026 and January 2027 and is approximately $3,000

To enable Sarah (Director) to complete necessary professional development in the area of family and domestic violence (FDV) through the highly respected DART Institute:

To enable the training of volunteers to assist Sarah in running the Safe Fearless and Free program.

To provide funds to pay for professionals necessary to help us ensure that legally and ethically we are ready to provide a service that is safe and secure - this includes the handling of information

To allow us to ensure financial transparency is all we do, through a yearly accountant review

To ensure that we can hire venues to host services and other events

To help us to continue the Women's Walk in Byford, and potentially other areas

To allow us to fund programs for the community to attend that will provide information on how to act if you think that someone may be experiencing FDV

To allow us to continue fundraising in the future

Your donations will help to build the Foundation and allow us to start services in January 2026.
The Strong, Fearless and Free program will help women who are survivors of FDV to cope with their mental health conditions.
This program will bring together my expertise as a Fitness Professional and as a Counsellor. This service is not commonly found in Western Australia and in order to provide this we have many hurdles to overcome. Unfortunately, most of these hurdles involve funding. An example of this is in order to ensure that the women attending this service feel safe is by providing a female Police presence at each session.

Your donation counts

No matter what you decide to give, the Sarah Ford Foundation is incredibly grateful. It is only through your kindness that we are going to be able to provide such powerful services to the women that need it.
We will be applying for funding but this is a hard process (one we're prepared to tackle!) and we are currently gaining more experience in this complex area.

On behalf of the Sarah Ford Foundation and it's committee and ordinary members, we would like to take the time to say thank you for reading this page and considering making a donation.

We will do our best to keep this page updated as the year progresses.

Once again, thank you for your time today, it is greatly appreciated.
