We are General Store at The Heart, a local cafe dedicated to making a positive impact in our community. Our mission goes beyond serving exceptional food and coffee; we provide supportive employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities or those at risk due to mental illness, trauma, homelessness, and other challenges. Our welcoming atmosphere is designed to support and uplift everyone who walks through our doors.
To enhance our space and better serve our community, we are launching a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for some exciting modifications. Donations will be used to assist in purchasing the following:
Dignity Cutlery and Crockery: We aim to provide discreet mugs and utensils for customers who would benefit from them, ensuring they can fully enjoy their coffee and meals.
Accessible Technology: Implementing iPads with accessible software will allow customers who need visual aids and cues to communicate and order independently.
Inclusive Seating: We need additional chairs to accommodate various disabilities, making our space comfortable for all.
Support for Staff: Some of our employees lack access to appropriate clothing and hygiene products. Your contributions will help us provide these essentials, removing barriers to employment.
Hairdresser Appointments: Many individuals we support have never had the opportunity to visit a hairdresser due to financial constraints. By offering hairdresser appointments, we can help them experience the joy and confidence that comes with a professional haircut. This small act of self-care can make a significant difference in their lives, boosting their self-esteem and helping them feel valued and cared for.
Interactive Sensory Items: Introducing sensory items will engage individuals, especially young people, allowing their guardians to relax and enjoy their time at our cafe.
