Every Disabled Child In Our Orphanages Deserves A Day Out
Donation protected
WHO AM I?
- Hello, my name is Jacqueline Chong - also known as Jackie Chong. I’m an Australian citizen of Chinese descent born in Auckland New Zealand now living with my husband and family in Sydney Australia. I was adopted as a baby by a Chinese couple who gave me a wonderful Christian family upbringing for which I am eternally thankful.
HOW DID I GET INVOLVED?
Through my business I am friends with a great family who have a teenage son they adopted from Taiwan. This outstanding young man works for me when he is available, he has a humble nature and is always pleasant and respectful. From talking together and sharing our experiences I found the circumstances of how he came to be adopted by his family, and from which orphanage he came from compelling enough for me to want to do something to help when the recent large earthquake hit Taiwan and caused widespread damage. I organized a donation drive through my business which offers a creative art experience for children as a leisure activity and raised over $4,000 for them. I also pledged to take the plaster painting art activity to Taiwan in December 2025 and will travel with my husband, the Taiwanese boy and his mother to supervise each child at the orphanages as they create their own art piece.
The three orphanages which we supported through the earthquake donations are:
CHUNG YI SOCIAL WELFARE FOUNDATION,
THE GARDEN OF HOPE FOUNDATION and
THE HARMONY HOME ASSOCIATION. There are over 400 children ranging from babies through to 14 years old spread over the three orphanages with a special team of carers and volunteers overseeing those who have mild to complex disabilities.
The three orphanages are located in Taipei Taiwan and are providing much needed care and nurturing of all these disadvantaged children as well as their able-bodied peers. However, no matter how much funding they receive there is never enough to provide the precious gift of the ability to grant outings purely for leisure.
WHAT DO THEY NEED?
The management of these orphanages recently reached out to me as they would very much require and appreciate donations towards the purchase of a suitably equipped coaster bus to enable the disabled children to be transported to venues and places such as the seaside or parks or the theatre, all at present impossible to access due to the lack of safe and suitably equipped transport. To be able to acquire a bus is not possible from internal resources as donations have dwindled and there are many other demands on funds which also support the other able-bodied and older orphans in our homes. A bus would be a precious commodity to bring anticipation, joy and the possibility of a break from the physical restrictions forced upon them by their disabilities, I am dedicating myself to help them achieve that dream for the children.
HOW MUCH DO WE NEED FOR THE BUS?
A reliable bus like this with facilities to enable transport of the children and their wheelchairs is what we aim to purchase. At present the cost is more than $100,000 USD so I would be so grateful if you could find it within your heart to give generously to this cause, many hands make light work and every donation large or small builds towards the fruition of this most needed and worthwhile vehicle dedicated to enhancing these young lives. Your generosity will enable children, many who have battled ill-health and have multiple disabilities who have never had the opportunity to experience a sea breeze, to feel beach sand between their fingers and toes, to visit a zoo or theme park and many other outings which more fortunate children experience regularly, the anticipation and pure joy will be a highlight in their young lives brought to reality by way of the heartfelt donations which I am asking from you here. Thank you so much for reading about our campaign, for your time and for your kind donation in advance.
Please note that I will be collecting funds on behalf of the orphanage management and remitting them initially weekly or more frequently according to the flow of funds, enabling the management to concentrate solely on the care and management of the orphanages. I will be pleased to update you on our progress, thank you for your support.
These children would be the main users of the bus
These children also would have outings on the bus
Some of our older children could be taken together to sporting activities, the beach and other suitable leisure venues.
